External Transit (T1)

External Transit (T1) lets businesses move non-EU goods within the EU without paying customs duties right away.

When the goods reach their final destination, businesses must declare them and pay any applicable taxes.

What is an external transit T1 shipping note?

The T1 shipping note suspends all import duties and charges until the goods reach their final destination. This note has all the essential details about the consignee and consignor and the traded goods, from non-EU to EU.

EXAMPLES

T1 status applies to shipments that:

  • Have been moved from a Customs Bonded warehouse where duties remain unpaid in the EU.
  • Will be moving further into the EU after being removed from a Temporary Storage Facility where duty remains unpaid.
  • Have been temporarily imported within the EU where goods remain under a Customs Guarantee but duty is unpaid.
  • Follow other forms of temporary process such as Inward Processing, where duty is underwritten by guarantee but not paid in the EU..
  • Have been removed from Free Zones.

Excluded from T1 status are the shipping goods that have been:

  • Purchased within the EU where import duty has previously been paid.
  • Purchased in an EU shop.
  • Manufactured in the EU.
