Despite all the bureaucratic part of logistics, working in this area can turn out to be fun. Even though our clients have access to the list of prohibited items and not recommended items, Eurosender’s staff still receives some quite unusual shipping requests or questions. We thought that sharing some of them would give you an idea of the joys of customer service.
Unusual Shipping Requests We Have Received
Shipping live animals – We get asked all the time whether it is possible to ship pets through Eurosender. From lizards, dogs, to live fish inside an aquarium (filled with water, of course). Well, our courier partners transport the items in trucks, filled with packages, usually with no ventilation. Besides, you can only ship your items inside cardboard boxes, pallets or suitcases. So, shipping your pets or other live animals is not an option. And why would you even want to ship your pet in the first place?
Sending several packages, which are counted as one parcel – That’s right, many people ask us if they could send, for example, five different packages, but still, consider them as shipping only one. We understand that our customers are trying to save money when shipping their belongings abroad. However, if you are sending five packages, you also have to pay for the service meant for each package. You can’t go to a supermarket, buy 10 loaves of bread, and pay just for one, right?
Shipping “Flour from Colombia” – Well, I think there is no need for further clarification;
Shipping cremation ashes or other human remains – it might sound weird, but we actually received such a request. We understand how valuable they might be to you, up to the point that you want to ship the ashes of your loved ones abroad. Due to its emotional value, and fragility, we do not recommend shipping them. This was one of the most unusual shipping requests we have ever had;
Wanting to send live people – Worse than wanting to send dead people via courier services, is to try shipping those who are still alive;
Trying to book flight tickets – Eurosender is an online booking engine for shipping your packages, suitcases, and pallets. However, shipping suitcases do not give Eurosender the “flight booking engine” title;
“Seeds” of a bull – This customer’s aim was to ship abroad the sperm of a bull in order to inseminate a cow. One of the best ones so far;
Clients chasing our staff on social media or asking for personal contact details – When our customer service team contacts our customers, the main goal is to fulfil their shipping needs and guide them the best we can. However, sometimes customers get curious not only about our professional lives but also about our personal ones. It is important to draw a line between these two;
A love story between a customer and a courier driver – This one is for all of you who don’t believe in love at first sight. Once, a customer demanded the courier driver’s phone number, as she allegedly “fell in love” with him at the moment of pickup. We wish them all the best;
Photo of a building to help with the pickup, or a map, instead of providing an actual address – Courier drivers receive all the information about the order, just to be able to collect or deliver a package. Sadly, there are no photos attached. Nevertheless, many customers try to send our team photos of their houses, buildings, doors or postboxes, as a way to inform where they want the package to be delivered. It is important to mention that we cannot forward these photos to the couriers, so the best thing is to just write your address correctly;
Lying about the shipment – Our courier partners will inform us whenever there are some irregularities with the clients’ shipment or pickup. Whether the package is much bigger or heavier than what you stated, we will eventually know about it. However, there are still cases of consumers stating that the couriers taking care of their shipments are lying about the situation. Don’t try to trick us, please!
These were some of the most unusual shipping requests we have ever gotten. We have received much more, but the post would be too long. However, if you ever come up with a question regarding our services, don’t hesitate to ask. Even if your request sounds weird, it is better to get things straight at the very beginning. Besides, our staff will thank you for the laughs.
